Looking for a getaway that you might never have thought of, someplace to surprise you! I found that St. Louis, MO is chuck full of things to do. This cool getaway starts with your hotel, the Doubletree @ St. Louis Union Station. The hotel is housed in a historic train station built in 1894 and is a mix of modern amenities and furnishings with historic architecture and decor. The price is reasonable and the downtown location is prime.
Day one: Start your tour with a totally unique experience by walking the .7 miles to City Museum. Get ready for some crawling, climbing, sliding, riding, cave exploring and romping around in ballpits. It's a big playground where adults are not only welcomed but have to chaperone the kids. From there cop a squat and have a delicious calzone lunch at Sauce on the Side. Of course, day one of a St. Louis tour should include Gateway Arch. Renovations are underway and should be complete in Spring 2017. Get the tickets to the top at the Old Courthouse-a place where freedom from slavery was fought for and near where Lewis and Clark prepared for their expedition. That night, if the Cardinals are in town, wear your red, get your big foam fingers ready and take them out to the ball game!!
Day Two: Today I hope the sun is shining, because we are going to the zoo, zoo, zoo! I am not a big zoo fan so its gotta be a good one for me to go-St. Louis' Zoo ranks at the top. The zoo is inside of Forest Park so the day can start by exploring the park a bit and learning more about the area at the Missouri History Museum, a free museum within the park. Then spend hours with the animals. Lunch or, at least, something to hold you over may have to be purchased at the zoo but dinner is another story. Travel a little out of the way for a true St. Louis classic with a super fun ambience and good old fried food vacation faire at Blueberry Hill. If you aren't exhausted after dinner and want to pack a bit more in, walk the walk on the Delmar Loop where the restaurant is. That is the Planet Walk, a scale model of the solar system. The St. Louis Walk of Fame is also located on the Delmar Loop and your final fancy can be found at Fitz's with an old fashioned float, shake or malt (boozy, if you prefer).
This is just a sampling of the things to do in St. Louis and the surrounding area and this is a plan tailored for a family. If you are interested in plans for a longer stay or with different participants in mind, please let us help at Stowaway!!
